Is Pakistan ready to play real cricket in Ireland and England?

Having played the shorter format of cricket for quite some time – with the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and West Indies’ tour of Pakistan – the national team and its audience have been craving the long and real form of cricket since last October. Currently, Pakistan is sitting comfortably at the top of the T20 International table, and if anything, this is evidence we’ve been indulging in this format for far too long. When it comes to ODI and Test cricket, the men in green are lagging far behind their real potential, as at the moment, Pakistan is ranked ...

5 moments of pure magic that prove the Pakistan cricket team is a force to be reckoned with

I mean, let’s be real. The Pakistan cricket team has never been the team that played normally, so just limiting Pakistan’s miraculous wins to five times is a bit difficult. These impossible wins are nothing less than a magic trick, where the magician’s assistant is in the box and cut in half but still manages to escape alive. Defeating England at the Oval? The magician’s assistant in the box. That Sharjah Six? We just cut the box in half. The World Cup of 1992? Quarters now! That T20 World Cup of 2009? Seriously, please stop! That Whitewash of Australia? Assistant is still alive!! But these are moments everyone remembers, the ...

#PakvsSL: Pakistan played like Pakistan of the past, but is Sarfraz Ahmed to be blamed?

Mediocre. Average. At times brilliant, but mostly lethargic. Dare I say Pakistan cricket at its finest? There was a time not long ago, when two men anchored the entire cricket team to unimaginable victories, not just through impeccable performances but through charisma, style and discipline. The men who famously go by the names of Misbahul Haq and Younis Khan played a pivotal role in sending the Pakistan cricket team to the top of the Test rankings. Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan became owners of Pakistan’s most prolific partnership in Tests. Photo: Getty Images Although really short-lived, it was ...

How will Pakistan fare in the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka without Misbah and Younis?

The Pakistan cricket team is set to resume international duty, as Sri Lanka’s tour of the UAE begins on September 28th (which will potentially feature a T20 in Lahore). This will be their first bilateral series since May. The summer of 2017 has been nothing short of unforgettable for Pakistan’s cricket fraternity, as the national team defied popular perception (not to mention the ranking system) by lifting the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy in England. Changing the team captain will not solve Pakistan’s problems; we also need to change the players

Pakistan entered the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy as the lowest ranked team in the ODI charts. Even before the tournament began, Pakistan had no hope of winning, or in more realistic terms, had no real chance of crossing the group stage, with India and South Africa being in the same group.

Who do you think will win the Champions Trophy match between Pakistan and South Africa?

India already decimated Pakistan in the match played between the two arch rivals this past Sunday. I think South Africa, which has top ranked bowlers and batsmen, will easily be able to win the match against Pakistan. In sync: Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja celebrate the wicket of ...

Life after Younus Khan and Misbahul Haq – what does it look like?

Growing up in a perpetual shadow of conflict and turmoil, Younus Khan and Misbahul Haq were two beacons of calmness that you could count on to somehow make things better. We are fortunate enough to be in the same era as them, watch them steady the ship on countless occasions and reach new heights in the process. Younus and Misbah were deeply engrossed in a storyline that was full of emotions, more lows than highs, and the highs underappreciated. When Misbah went down at Lord’s, he picked up Pakistan’s crest that had been lying in the dirt since 2010 and proudly placed it on the honour boards for upcoming generations ...

Splitting the captaincy between Azhar and Sarfaraz is a bad idea!

Yet another tour of Pakistan to the continent of Australia has ended badly. After a good Test series in England, followed by achieving the number one Test ranking, they have been outplayed in the ODIs in England, New Zealand, Australia, and of course, the Test matches in New Zealand and Australia. There is a lot of blame being placed on the shoulders of Misbahul Haq for the losses in these last two Test series and for good reason. At the same time, cricket is a team game, and as the abysmal performances in the ODIs prove, there is only so ...

Who will the next Misbahul Haq be?

After having been thrashed by the mighty Australians on their home turf, Pakistan looks to adjust to life after Misbahul Haq and Younis. Whether the two get a go in the upcoming series remains to be seen but the future doesn’t seem too bright for the men in green unless the management finally decides to make a new young team from scratch. Like all great teams of the past and the present, Pakistan must delve deep into their domestic structure and search for answers before it’s all too late. Whilst one might argue that Pakistan’s domestic structure is full of ...

Why was Saanp Seerhi so derogatory towards LUMS?

While the promo of the drama, with its slow-mo moments and forgettable original soundtrack, had all the elements of a passable drama, the first episode proved otherwise. Written by Yasir Shah, under the supervision of Umera Ahmad, and directed by Misbah Khalid, Saanp Seerhi exhibited way more life than its gloomy poster and promo portrayed. From what was established in the appropriately paced first episode, the misuse of power by the feudal/political class and the standards of journalism in the country seem to form the premise of the serial. Seth Raees, played by Sajid Hassan is your typical business man/politician who is shown using his allies in the media for ...

Has the Australian team forgotten how many times they have been whitewashed by their South Asian counterparts?

Recently, Ian Chappell passed a comment, telling the Pakistan cricket team to either improve their game or stay at home. The former Australian captain went on to say that until the struggling side does not up their game significantly and provide some sort of a challenge to the home side, the Pakistan team will not be invited for any future series. According to Chappell,  “Pakistan have now lost 12 Test matches on the trot in Australia, and somebody’s got to give them a kick up the bum. Cricket Australia have got to start saying ‘listen if things don’t improve we will ...
