April has been the month of squad announcements, as the 2019 Cricket World Cup is now merely a month away. Almost all the participating teams have shown their trump cards. Our very own Chief Selector Inzamamul Haq recently revealed the 15-member squad alongside the two reserve players who will be touring England next month and representing the best of Pakistan cricket. Speculations regarding the final 15 had been ongoing for quite a while, and while it all came to end recently, it did not go entirely as everyone expected. World Cup fever: Who will make the cut?

Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup will be announced this week, April 18th. Some of the players that will manage to make a place for themselves in the team are fairly obvious. Sarfraz Ahmed will of course lead the side as captain while also fulfilling his duties behind the stumps. In the bowling department, pacers Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali will help lead the charge while Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim will spearhead the spin attack. The batting line-up will undoubtedly include regulars Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Hafeeez.   However, which players will be able to ...

The PSL frenzy: With 7 matches down, which team looks promising so far?

Pakistan Super League (PSL) has played a pivotal role in the restoration of international cricket in Pakistan, albeit partially. This year, eight matches will be played in Pakistan and hopefully after their success, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will be able to convince more players around the world that Pakistan is a safe country to host cricket matches. The fourth season of PSL commenced on Valentine’s Day. Till now, every team has shown their muscle on the field. The tournament is still in its early stages, with only seven matches played; however, we can still try and predict each team’s future ...

Out with Sarfraz, in with Shoaib

This tour of South Africa seems to be a moment in Sarfraz Ahmed’s life where everything goes haywire. The rise and fall of Sarfraz and the emergence of Shoaib Malik from within his own ranks months prior to the World Cup, is a tailor-made story with enough grief and sorrow to hit the shelves and be sold out in its very first week. If we are to skip a few pages back, Sarfraz, standing in an oddly designed white coat, was lifting the Champions Trophy amidst cheers and celebrations on the streets of London. Sarfraz was on top of the world, ...

#PakvsSA: 4 reasons why we messed up, 4 ways to turn it around

It has been more than a month yet Pakistani batsmen remain unable to find their feet in South Africa. Thus far, our performance can only be described as a horror show, particularly from the batsmen who continue to be haunted by short balls. During the Test series, it was Duanne Olivier who tested our batsmen, and this torment was perhaps to be continued by the rest of the South African bowlers during the ODI series. As of now, the series stands at 2-1 in favour of the hosts, with only two games remaining in order to decide the fate of the ...

PakvsNZ: T20s proved Pakistan is a good team, but the ODIs will determine if it is a great one

Earlier this week, Pakistan triumphed over New Zealand in the T20 series with an impressive 3-0 victory. Good teams will look at such a performance and think they have all their bases covered. But in order to be a great team, one would have to look at how to improve this performance and excel in all areas. There is no doubt Pakistan absolutely dominated the series, but there remain a few glaring issues which need to be ironed out going forward, most notably our batting order. Firstly, in order for Sarfraz Ahmed to be effective, he must not bat anywhere below ...

#PakvsAus: A victory to remember for Pakistan, a tour to forget for Australia

Australia’s tour to the UAE, which can only be termed a horrendous nightmare for them, has finally come to an end. Poor technique and an inability to adapt to the conditions played a pivotal role in a terrible performance by the Aussies against the men in green. After Pakistan’s embarrassing exit from the Asia Cup, fans were unsure of how things would unfold, especially in the Test series. Both teams lacked experience, particularly in the batting department. Australia missed stalwarts Steve Smith and David Warner after the sandpapergate scandal, while Pakistan looked to be in all sorts of trouble after ...

Pakistan need to get over the 2017 Champions Trophy high, because tomorrow won’t be easy

The proverb “cricket – the game of glorious uncertainties” is probably taken way too seriously by Pakistan. Before the start of the Asia Cup, many cricket pundits were deeming Pakistan as their favourites. But thus far, it has been a story of tremendous crests and troughs as far as the graph of Pakistan team’s performance is concerned. Apart from the game against Hong Kong, the men in green shirts have found themselves in all sorts of trouble. Against India, intent was missing altogether. Indian fielders, making their own blunders, were aiding Pakistan as they dropped five catches in the outfield. ...

Mauka mauka: Sorry India, but the 2018 Asia Cup is coming home to Pakistan

The 14th edition of Asia Cup begins on September 15th in the UAE, making this the third time the tournament will be held there. This time, Pakistan, India and Hong Kong are together in Group A, while Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are in Group B. Despite having lost its ODI status earlier this year, Hong Kong qualified by defeating the UAE in the qualifying final. If somehow both teams manage to make it to the final, then this tournament potentially includes three Pakistan versus India matches. However, the million dollar question remains: will it be India or Pakistan ...

If anything is coming home, it’s Pakistan with 2 trophies!

As far as the T20 format is concerned, Pakistan cricket has been on a roll since September 7, 2016, under Sarfraz Ahmed’s leadership. After a disastrous T20 World Cup in 2016, when Shahid Afridi and his men failed miserably and couldn’t qualify for the next round, Pakistan were under a tremendous leadership crisis. Enters Sarfraz. He was handed the captaincy and his first Test was against England, where Pakistan was coming in with a 4-1 defeat in the ODI series. However, we witnessed a complete turnaround as Pakistan comprehensively beat the pioneers of cricket with a nine-wicket triumph. Since then, ...
