Stories about production design

The title of ‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace’ is enough incentive to watch it!

Let’s be honest here. How many of us actually know who Andrew Cunanan is? Not many, I’d assume. Now how about this man called Versace, ring any bells?  Forgets the instrument that goes ding-a-ling when you shake it, the aforementioned name deserves banging of drums. People my age should be well aware of the fact that this iconic fashion designer got assassinated a couple of decades back. But how was he killed, why was he killed, and more pertinently, at least considering the relevance of our current discussion, who was the killer? Which brings us back to this man named Cunanan, ...

Punjab Nahi Jaungi will make you feel the pangs of a love story and the pleasures of a romantic comedy

News of the recently released Punjab Nahi Jaungi instantly caused an equal and opposite reaction in my mind – I will not go to watch it. Why, you ask? Well, here are four formidable reasons answering your question: 1.The first reason was perhaps due to the very actor-producer Humayun Saeed who, in my personal opinion, did not qualify to be the silver screen ‘hero’. 2. The second reason being that Punjab Nahi Jaungi’s early poster was unveiled about two months prior to the movie’s release. It was not only in bad taste but also smelled of rotten romantic comedies. #PunjabNahiJaungi trailer is releasing tomorrow! ...

Voldemort: Origins of the Heir is a fan film that has set social media abuzz and could be the Voldemort film that we’ve always wanted to watch. (Full review) The Hateful Eight: Even if it’s a flawed Tarantino film, it’s always worth a watch

Violent, bloody and unapologetic; that’s why I love Quentin Tarantino films. His work entrails a certain love for cinema which sadly lacks in many major Hollywood productions today. The Hateful Eight is a good reminder as to why his vision is still relevant in the world of cinema today. Photo: Publicity With The Hateful Eight, Tarantino marks his second take towards the Western genre. The story starts off a decade (or so) after the American Civil War. An American landscape that may have, for the time period, resolved the issue of slavery but the social/racial backdrop still ...

And the Oscar goes to…

The 88th Academy Awards are nearly a month away. The nominations have been announced, the snubs have been snubbed and the finger-pointing hashtags have been tweeted. This can only mean that it’s high time we get down to discussing who will and should win on Hollywood’s biggest night. This year around all the nominations in the Best Picture category were decent in their own way, but a valid argument does arise; regardless of the movies not being mediocre, most of them weren’t great enough to be part of the line-up. Here’s my ranking of eight films vying for the Best Picture Oscar ...

The 87th Academy Awards: And the nominees are…

As the Academy Awards inch closer, everyone is full of excitement, already trying to predict who the winners will be. The Oscar statuette still stands out as the greatest acknowledgment for the art of film making since 1929. Apart from complaints about the complete absence of racial diversity in the nominations, there are quite a few thrilling movies this year which, in terms of art and film-making, make the Oscars as diversified as one can imagine. Here are the nominations for 2015: Whiplash Photo: IMDb Whiplash had the lowest budget out of all the Oscar nominations. It is an astounding display of the ...
