Is war between Israel and Iran inevitable?

War drums are beating for Iran and once again, the drummer is Israel, joined by some occidental powers. The facade started last summer but was postponed due to the elections in the US and Israel. The burning question though remains ‘is war between Israel and Iran looming’? In an attempt to answer this question, we must look at a few different perspectives. Israel and Western points of view Israel sees Iran’s nuclear program as an existential threat that must be stopped by all means, including a military strike. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is convinced that Iran will be able to produce a nuclear bomb by summer ...

Pressing questions: Should Misbah call it a day?

A series victory typically covers a team’s weaknesses as the focus then revolves around how the series was won, which players performed exceptionally, and then generally how good the leadership and management was. However, such is not the case in Pakistan’s 2-1 series victory over India. It is a great feat no doubt! Beating India in India and almost clean sweeping them is an achievement and a half; however the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should not shy away from assessing the overall team performance during the series and fixing the ODI team. Pakistan’s Test and T20 teams are quite brilliant in my view. ...

India saves face as Pakistan takes the series

As an avid cricket fan, I always watch a match for the love of the sport. However, in case of a Pakistan versus India game, my intentions are for the Green Gladiators to crash and burn their opponents in blue. Yuvi’s masterclass: A star in T20 cricket!

India -Pakistan matches are always torrid love affairs, and what a nail-biting encounter the second T20 turned out to be! Pakistan’s loss and inability to cross the finish line with just 26 runs pending in the last two overs was a deeply heart rendering sight- however, the credit for that goes primarily to Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj may not be cut out for Test cricket as his repeated failures have shown, but in limited-overs cricket, he is one of the fiercest strikers there is and yesterday’s innings was a master class in clean hitting. This is one of those times when statistics tell the story ...

What’s with the meek surrender, team Pakistan?

It’s not the defeat itself, rather the manner of it that is often so demoralising.  As a nation we are desperately short of good news, and for most people a cricketing victory represents the only source of bliss and contentment in a life full of anxiety and despair. There was a time when hockey and squash along with cricket provided an ample cause for national celebration. The likes of Jahangir, Jansher, Samiullah, Hassan Sardar, Imran Khan and Javed Miandad kept Pakistan’s flag flying high at the world stage, and irrespective of the political, social and economic crisis’s at home, a ...
