#GameOver: Nawaz Sharif now has only two options – resign or be forced to resign

Alas, the unthinkable has happened. The eagerly anticipated joint investigation team (JIT) findings have implicated the members of the ruling Sharif family for not only concealing assets, but for failing to reveal their sources of income and presenting a fake money trail. Startling revelations made by Panamagate JIT in final report https://goo.gl/YxZNQ2 Posted by Express Tribune Video on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 The Sharif family members have officially been declared ‘criminals’ by the JIT findings. Over the last few months, we witnessed the most appalling, cringe-worthy and condemnable portrayal of arrogant self-righteousness by the ruling party, despite receiving the ire of the public. Raabta fails to connect with viewers with its nauseatingly bad ‘been there, done that’ story

It is extremely amusing when movies have ridiculously high levels of disconnection with the audience, especially when its title and tagline state the opposite. Raabta, the latest punar-janam (rebirth) absurdity to come out of Bollywood, is so shamelessly dedicated to its primary theme of reincarnation that it doesn’t even mind taking elements already used in a vast number of movies to fill its 150-minute long run time. It has an uncanny similarity to the absurd concoction of Befikre, Before Sunrise and Before Sunset (in reference to a fledgling romance in an exotic European locale). From the opening parts right down to the cringe-worthy climax ripped off from Titanic, and a weird combination ...

After the embarrassing treatment meted by the Saudis, is it time for “Go Nawaz Go”?

Pakistan has suffered yet another excruciating defeat on an international platform. With the recent verdict of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Pakistan could not have dealt with a more severe blow than the humiliating treatment shown by the Saudis at the Arab-American-Islamic Summit. Why? Because apparently we have an incompetent, self-serving, corrupt man serving as our prime minister. Though matters have gotten worse after his first two terms, we keep making the same mistake by electing him over and over again. There was a time when the top office holders of our state received warm welcomes no matter where they went. When Ayub Khan visited Saudi Arabia ...

Khuda Mera Bhi Hai: A game changer for Pakistan’s dramasphere

Pakistani dramas are always under fire for portraying the ‘weepy woman’ and the ‘naik perveens’ that seem to have no spine or are always victimised. People tell me that I must have nerves of steel to watch dramas that are full of tears and misery.  Well, I do. But that’s not the end of it. There is a gradual change that’s happening in the Pakistani dramasphere. Women are taking on risky roles and writers are writing scripts where women don’t have to spend at least 20 out of 24 episodes crying about their husbands and their mother-in-laws. One recent game changer that has aired on ...

Remembering the ones we lost too soon

It seems like the year 2016 just started a while back, but here we are, just a few days shy from welcoming 2017. A lot happened last year which took us by surprise and shocked us.
