5 burning questions after watching the Avengers: Endgame trailer

Earlier this year, Avengers: Infinity War ended with Thanos wiping out half of the universe’s population and leaving all Marvel fans broken-hearted. I think it is alright to accept the fact we all shed a tear (or two) when we saw Peter Parker fade away in Tony Stark’s arms. When the credits started to roll, we knew our superheroes were at their weakest and that Thanos had really hurled the Avengers down a chasm of despair and helplessness. But I’m sure the world hasn’t seen the last of our heroes, as the trailer for Avengers: Endgame indicates that a new ...

Will Captain Marvel eclipse Wonder Woman?

Marvel Studio’s latest film Captain Marvel rolls back the years and takes us to a simpler time: the 90s. Set to release early next year before the highly anticipated Avengers 4, Captain Marvel focuses on the origin story of its titular character with the aim of easing the character’s transition into the next Avengers offering. The film’s trailer gives us an exciting look into what to expect from the film. It gives us a glimpse into the origins of Carol Danvers (the alter-ego of Captain Marvel, played by Brie Larson), a military pilot who finds her life completely changed after her spaceship crashes on an alien planet. ...

Captain Marvel may be the superhero to end all superheroes, but Shazam is the clear winner

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been on a record-breaking streak for 10 years now, and this marvellous (pun intended) train seems unstoppable. However, if you look at how many female superheroes this universe has introduced over the past decade, you’re in for a shock. Apart from Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johansson), the MCU does not have any other bona fide female superhero, which is quite strange. No, Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) does not count in this comparison, and neither does Gamora (Zoe Saldana). Technically, Black Widow doesn’t count either, as she has never starred in her own movie and ...

Ant-Man and the Wasp is highly entertaining but lacks the ‘Marvel oomph’

Ant-Man and the Wasp is the first Marvel release after Avengers: Infinity War. This is the third Marvel entry to feature Ant-Man, after Ant-Man (2015) and Captain America: Civil War (2016). Paul Rudd and the rest of the cast return to reprise their roles, while Peyton Reed returns to direct this sequel too. Only this time around, Reed was involved right from the start instead of taking over from Edgar Wright like he did in the prequel. I strongly believe that those who spoil good movies should be punished, which is why I will try keep myself from committing this sin ...

Believe the hype: 5 reasons why ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ will meet all your expectations, and then some

The 19th film in the Marvel franchise, Avengers: Infinity War, will begin to put an end to the saga which started a decade ago with 2008’s Iron Man. The movie features all of our favourite superheroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This means the superheroes from all three phases have finally come together to take down the ultimate bad guy, Thanos (Josh Brolin), whose arrival Marvel has been teasing since the very beginning. Infinity War is the longest Marvel movie yet, with a runtime of 160 minutes, but I am not complaining. It’s understandable that a movie with such ...

Black Panther is hypnotic, imaginative and nothing like anything you would have ever seen

After spending thousands of hours watching films over the years, I rarely come across anything that I haven’t already watched before in a slightly different guise. It doesn’t necessarily mean that we have run out of good cinema. It is just that someone like me who is a prolific movie-watcher hardly gets to experience a work of cinematic art these days, which is truly novel. But to my utter surprise, I did manage to find such a gem and that too in the most unlikeliest of places. Imagine my astonishment when I went in to watch a Marvel movie ...

Can Ant-Man and the Wasp surpass its prequel, or will it be a case of one and the same?

Back in 2013, when Paul Rudd was cast as Ant-Man, a relatively unknown superhero, fans were quite sceptical about watching an entire movie about a man whose powers were comparable to an ant’s abilities. But fortunately, Rudd’s dedicated performance, a well-written, comical script and a talented supporting cast helped the movie gain worldwide praise and rack in plenty of moolah. Three years later, the trailer of its sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp finally dropped. Rudd, like he did in the prequel, has co-written the screenplay. Most of the cast has returned for the sequel with Walton Goggins (The Shield, Justified), ...

Captain America: Is the clash of the Avengers inevitable?

Captain America: Civil War is the continuation of the Winter Soldier (2014) storyline and phase three of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. Bucky Barnes is now on the run from the law while the civilian casualties in the previous battles have led the government to intervene and regulate the superheroes under the UN supervision. Steve Rogers aka Captain America foresees the manipulation of a restricted control of freewill while Tony Stark sees it as an opportunity for the Avengers to legally become part of the United States government and avoid civilian casualties in the near future. Could the two superheroes settle their differences ...

When good things come in ant-sized packages

Ant-Man is an American superhero film, produced by Marvel studios. Based upon a comic character with the same name, Ant-Man, the movie marks the conclusion of Marvel’s Phase Two of the Marvel cinematic universe.  Paul Rudd (Scott Lang) is starring as the lead role and is projected as a skilled albeit charming and street smart thief/ex-con who is seen helping his mentor cum friend, Dr Hank Pym (Michael Douglas). Dr Pym is the one who invented the technological wonder that is the “shrinking suit”. Photo: IMDb Photo: IMDb If you’re expecting Ant-Man to present the same pomp ...
