From Mourinho to Solskjaer: A tale of Manchester United’s stunning comeback

The Manchester United caretaker manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has won 14 out of 17 games in all competitions; his only defeat coming against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the first leg at Old Trafford. He was appointed only as caretaker in December following the sacking of Jose Mourinho. Given the below par performance of the team under Mourinho, it is unthinkable that the same team is now flourishing under the new management. No one gave Solskjaer any real chance given the abysmal situation of the team, but the numbers speaks for themselves. A former United man, for him this is not ...

#FIFAWorldCup18: The only thing that worked for Argentina was Nigeria’s bad luck

This is a clipping of a supposed interview, attributed to Pelé, going viral on social media these days. It goes as follows: Interviewer: "Do you think Brazil's 1970 team can beat today's Argentina?" Pelé: "Yes." Interviewer: "By how much?" Pelé: "1-0" Interviewer: “That's it?" Pelé: "Well, most of us are over 75 years old now." 😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/mThA6bDQ8A — World Cup (@EPLBible) June 25, 2018 This citation, to the best of my knowledge, is a complete fabrication. But the funny part is that if you analyse Argentina’s performances over the course of FIFA World Cup 2018, you would completely understand where the Brazilian legend would be coming from, if ...

Real Madrid vs PSG: Will The Whites celebrate their 116th birthday with #APorLA13?

Can you think of a better love affair than European nights and Real Madrid? I am pretty sure you can’t. Los Blancos have been going through a torrid campaign domestically, they are out of Copa Del Rey, and have no realistic chance of defending their La Liga crown. However, at Europe’s elite competition, they once again transcended to an entirely different level to tarnish Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) hopes of Champions League success, at a time when the contrary seemed more likely. Not a bad way for Madridistas to celebrate the club’s 116th anniversary. Here are some key points from the Round of 16 matches between these two football giants: 1. Cristiano Ronaldo ...

February 14, 2017, will be a lasting memory in the mind of every Paris Saint Germain (PSG) fan for years to come. In a historic night at the Parc des Princes in Paris, PSG completely blew away Spanish giants FC Barcelona and more or less confirmed their place in the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) 2016-17. Is the failure to qualify weighing heavily on the shoulders of Messi and the gang?

With the clock fast ticking away for the FIFA World Cup to be held in Russia in summer of 2018, the South American qualifying race is at its pulsating best. The stage is set for a fiercer and much more intense qualifying finale. More than three countries are vying for fifth place for an intercontinental play-off, with the first four countries automatically qualifying in, arguably, the greatest sporting spectacle on the planet. Being a football fanatic ever since I can remember, I have always rooted for the plucky underdogs of the tournament to win the cup, no matter which part ...

Argentina – A nation in a ‘Messi’ situation

One of the most calm and cool heads under pressure, Lionel Messi steps up to take Argentina’s first penalty of the shootout in the Copa America Final. He is expected to tuck away the penalty, but to the dismay of his supporters he balloons his spot kick over the crossbar. It frantically leads to a catapult of mistakes from the Argentinians, culminating in their loss to Chile in the Copa America Final – again. Did Louis Van Gaal’s failed philosophy cost him his job?

Almost two years ago, Louis van Gaal (LvG) was the centre of attention at the biggest football event on the planet – the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In the build-up to Netherlands crucial semi-final game against Argentina, BBC Sports justified Louis van Gaal being labelled as the tactical genius. No one would have thought that in two years’ time, the same man would be heavily criticised and eventually sacked for the very tactics that were once glorified. France’s 2-0 friendly win over the Netherlands in March prompted a tactical rethink by Van Gaal.Photo: Getty Images Van Gaal’s announcement as the new Manchester ...

The great Manchester United, a club which has won a record; 13 titles in the Premier League era that hasn’t been equalled by any other team to date,  achieved under the managerial reign of the imperious Alex Ferguson, who arguably is, the best manager in the history of professional sports. English Premier League 2015: The good, the bad and the ugly

With the English Premier League underway, and viewers enthralled with excitement, I can feel the anticipation for the upcoming matches seeping in wherever I come across die-hard football fans. Therefore, keeping in mind the charm that EPL has, I have come-up with a list of the good, the bad and the ugly that we have so far seen this season. The good Eden Hazard Eden Hazard has been the key for Chelsea’s title winning campaign; he has so far won the PFA Player of the Year Award, scored 13 goals and 8 assists, and will probably help Chelsea get to their fourth EPL ...

Is Messi getting ready to pack his bags and leave Barcelona?

The year 2015 hasn’t started so well for the 27-years-old Argentinean, Lionel Messi, who lost the Ballon d’Or award to his rival, Ronaldo. Last year, however, was a great year for Messi; from becoming the all-time leading goal scorer in La Liga (and in the history of the UEFA Champions League with 72 goals) breaking Raul Gozalez’s record, to captaining his Argentinean side in the FIFA World Cup, making it to the final against the World Cup Champions, Germany, he had done it all. Messi, who has been a Barcelona player through the academy ranks and made his debut in 2004, has been ...
