An event manager with over 28,000 followers on Twitter - what does Farrukh do with his social power?

An event manager, with over 28,000 followers, Farrukh Siddiqui is not new to the Twittersphere.

He is one of a few Pakistanis who command such a huge following in this form of social media, and is often seen making use of it to further causes deserving attention as well as to patriotism.

It may not mean a lot to some people but his immense following grants him power to propagate ideas, and discourse far beyond a normal social media user.

Here are his answers to the questions we asked him.

1) Why did you join Twitter?

I really joined twitter accidentally; one of my uncle's sent me an invitation and then I entered into this world of twitter. At my starting days I used to read other people, and it became my habit. Later on, I started gradually by tweeting things of my interest, and people of same interest started joining me. In such a way we became a big circle. I also faced issues in this scenario that I did not interact much with people because I studied twitter as media of sharing information and not chat Now however I can say that I am on twitter because of a purpose and that is to change the image of my country in the world as well as to support my new twitter fellows who need support in starting just as I did and to make friends around the world .

2)  Have you ever had a Twitter fight?

Never. I don’t believe in fights, I believe in debate. It’s a free world, and everyone has a right to express his point of view, as do I.

3)  What's the last movie you saw and what did you think of it?

Bol. I agree with the movie - it takes guts to speak up.

4) If you were stranded on an island who would you choose as your one companion and why?

How about my laptop? If I can get wifi I can stay in touch with not only one person, but the whole world.

5) What is the quality you most like in a man?

Honesty, sense of humor, integrity, generosity, and respect towards other people.

6) What's the quality you most like in a woman?

Confidence, intelligence, loyalty, kindness, and she should manage her self in a respectable way.

7) Where would you be right now rather than here?

If you are talking about Twitter, I am in the right place at the right time, because the world has become a global village now, and we should benefit from the latest technologies to excel in life. But if you are talking in a broader sense, then I would be some where in showbiz, in cricket, or most probably in the Pakistan Army as these were my child hood dreams.

8) What one super power would you choose?

Well, how about controlling peoples’ minds? Not a lot of people use their brains properly so let me use their brains for them. However, I may refuse to have any super power at all, as most super heroes have to wear their underwear over their pants!

9) What is your present state of mind?

Great! I feel positive and excited about this interview.

10) What is your one regret in life?

Honestly speaking, none.  I take my failures as lessons and try not to repeat them, but yes, we are humans and it is fine to go wrong sometimes in life.

11) What’s your favorite dessert?

I don’t have a sweet tooth, but I enjoy ice cream, chocolates and of course, kheer on Eid.

13)You are president of Pakistan from tomorrow. Where do you start?

Oh! There is so much to be done I’ll start with civil servants of grade 6 to grade 22, This is the most important area that needs to be accountable. I will then move on to education to strengthen our nation’s future. I will closely work with the Armed forces to make the defense supreme. And to do all this I need some constitutional changes, like locking in my reign for at least 10 years.

14) Any particular kind of music you enjoy?

I like old classics and Sufi music.

15)You have recently had the chance to meet many people in Pakistan’s social media. Do you think there is a future for this branch of media?

Of course! Social media is the fastest growing network around the globe, and if we want to move ahead with the world we have to understand the importance and professionalism of this branch of media. On this medium you can find every thing on real time. If we take it seriously, there will be a bright future for social media in Pakistan, and if we don’t take it seriously we will lag behind the world and that would be a great loss.

16) What is Farrukh Siddiqui’s first love?

Travelling.

17) How many followers do you currently have on twitter and how does the power of such a vast following help you?

I have more than 28,000 friends on Twitter. They help me a lot by encouraging me, by sharing and also by criticizing me if they do not agree with me at any point. My friends give me strength to give my 100 percent in whatever I do. I don’t call them followers we are a team.

18) How did you get this many followers what is the secret?

It is a matter give and take. I follow back whenever I find someone with the similar interests and follow them regardless of how many followers they have. You should ask the friends who are following me this question.

19) Why don't we see you proclaiming yourself as a social media guru with such a massive following?

I don't think I can call myself a social media guru. There is still a long way to go, and I am still learning. Hopefully, I’ll claim this title after I gain a complete grip on the subject.

20) What message do u want to give to Pakistan?

I think we all have read and heard about unity, faith and discipline but do not practice these in real life. My message to our nation is to please practice these words in real life. Every individual has to play his/her role positively. As Allama Iqbal said:

"Afrad ke hato'n main hai aqwam ki taqdeer/ Har fard hai millat ke muqaddar ka sitara."
