Maulana tantrums Part II: PM Gilani’s removal

Now that he has separated, Fazlur Rehman is using the 'protect democracy' excuse to call for the PM's resignation.

Our favorite maulana has lost all his patience now. He is demanding that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani be removed.

Seriously?

This is the same person whose nomination the maulana supported, the same person he praised multiple times, and the same person whom he congratulated on defusing the judicial crisis. And after all that, just because the prime minister used his authority, Maulana Fazlur Rehman wants him to be fired from the job?

This brings to light a number of interesting things about how our politics functions. Firstly, people like the maulana hold a huge sway in our political system because they have a certain nuisance value as they claim to represent a certain part of the population. Using this method they regularly hold the government or whoever is in power, hostage to their demands.

Mr Rehman should just quit the government all together, move to the opposition and continue with his life.

Secondly, our political system constantly talks about reconciliation and consensus building. But, what they really mean is, that we are going to give and take whatever as long as we eventually get our way and stick to power. Meanwhile, the whole talk of doing it all for the sake of democracy is nothing but a smoke screen.

For the sake of democracy

For one minute let’s analyse the phrase “we are doing it all for the sake of democracy.”

What does it even mean? And have they even read the definition of democracy when they use it as an excuse? But, most importantly, how is all this political black mailing and swindling considered a protection mechanism for democracy? How can we even let these guys get away with this?

Now that the mualana sahab is away from the government, he is using the excuse that the prime minister should be removed from office for the protection of democracy.

Seriously buddy, the prime minister leads this so called democratic government. If people like you who have six or seven seats in the parliament start calling for his removal, you are the people who are damaging the democracy, in order to protect it.

While all this is going on, the MQM decides to play the aadha teetar, aadha batair card whereby they quit the cabinet but continue to stay on the treasury benches.

Seriously people, have some guts. If you want to quit the government, then actually quit it!

Stop acting like an angry teenager, who will not talk to his buddy while talking to everyone else around him just to make him jealous.

Lastly, MQM, JUI-F, PML-N, PML-Q, PML-F, ANP and PPP, none of you guys run a democratic party setup internally. So when you guys talk about the protection of democracy, it sounds like Pol Pot giving a lecture on Human Rights. It’s just plain wrong on so many levels.
