Donald Trump, you’re racist and you’re fired!

Donald Trump should restore some sanity and pride. He is now on the precipice of being declared morally bankrupt.

Joaquin Guzman also known as El Chapo (meaning shorty) is being hailed as the real Shawshank after a mind-boggling escape from the Altiplano prison through a one-mile long tunnel, an engineering marvel on its own.

The gravity of negligence on part of the Mexican security officials and seriousness of the flak coped by Mexican Premier Enrique Pena in the wake of an embarrassing escape of the world’s most feared drug lord jibed to the lighter side when American rapper Pitbull took on Donald trump,  after the latter’s racist remarks on Hispanic immigrants.

It all began to simmer when Trump of The Apprentice fame kick started his presidential campaign. He resorted to clichés such as,
“Sadly, the American dream is dead. But if I get elected as president, I will bring it back, bigger and better than ever.”

Though, not many espoused the gimmickry.

Mr Trump criticised Barack Obama’s (the first coloured president in US history) leadership vehemently in the wake of the Baltimore crisis garnering media attention, though he mildly disapproved the more recent Charleston church shooting, where the perpetrator was a white fundamentalist. I believe this to be quite hypocritical on his behalf.

Not that I am an advocate of all of Obama’s policies, but Mr Trump must realise and acknowledge that sealing the non-proliferation treaty of nukes with Iran (deemed as the axis of evil by the trigger happy George Bush) and bringing about a much needed thaw in the relationship with neighbouring Cuba (both countries agreeing to opening embassies in their respective countries and  JetBlue airline will soon be starting flights to Havana from New York) are master strokes towards a peaceful coexistence.

Trump’s opinion of bombing the oil fields in Iraq and tackling the ISIS after assuming presidency depicts his destructive mind-set. I reckon he should take a leaf out of Obama’s policy manual where he is keen to garner good relations with Nigeria’s newly elected premier to fight off the scourge of Boko Haram.

Trump’s desire to become the mouthpiece of Republicans came true when he voiced his reservation over Obama’s immigration policies and uttered the following racist statement,
“They are bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists and some I assume are good people.”

Naturally, the statement did not go down well with the majority of Americans who believe in tolerance, respect and coexistence. Even big corporations took offense to his rather puerile comment.

To record their protest, Huffington Post decided not to recognise him as a presidential candidate.

Trump’s famous one-liner, “you’re fired” came a full circle when NBC, Trump’s joint partner for the Miss Universe beauty pageant, severed business ties with the frivolous tycoon. Craft brewery is the latest in line to join the bandwagon of boycotting the ‘Trump’ brand name.

He is the butt of all jokes on the internet as well, with memes such as,
“I am running for president and I am an idiot.”

But it is predominantly the Hispanic diaspora that took a dig at him. There were rallies and protests and the real fun began when the famous rapper Pitbull of Hispanic origin mocked the real estate mogul after the Mexican drug lord El Chapo’s escape from a maximum security penitentiary.
“Trump! El Chapo is coming for you,” was his riposte.

This has led to more memes and more jokes poked at the multimillionaire.

Foolhardy Trump, not willing to move an inch from his stance, seems to be on a rampage to destroy his brand name. Plans of bringing his presidential campaign back on track backfired when he criticised John McCain’s role as a prisoner of war and veteran saying,
“He is not a war hero.”

Upon hearing this howler, McCain retorted by asking the businessman to apologise to all war veterans. Even Jeb Bush, the Republican presidential candidate for the 2016 elections and brother of George Bush, didn’t lend much support to these patronising comments.

Despite Trump’s short-lived lead in the Grand Old Party (GOP) polls, it can be said that damage control is much needed. Mr Trump is advised to restore sanity and some pride for his own sake. Incisive rhetoric to create divisions in the American society will certainly not help resolve the issue of illegal immigrants.

Stopgap stratagem to abate emotions of the veterans by claiming that illegal immigrants are better off in terms of gaining opportunities as compared to the veterans in the country’s current setup definitely won’t work for him either.

As a proud American, he must understand that Christopher Columbus hit the shores in the quest for the new world and instead discovered America to connect the world together, not to create further fissures in it.

Donald Trump, who once was financially bankrupt, rebuilt an empire by fighting it out big time. He is now on the precipice of being declared morally bankrupt as well. Before the gale of criticism blows his wig away, let’s see if he has the ethics and values to get out of this mess with dignity.
