Five great reasons why I will vote for Bilawal Bhutto

Bilawal is educated, and hey, kinda good looking. PHOTO: EXPRESS

Is Bilawal Bhutto Zardari running for the National Assembly? Is he not running for the National Assembly? Do we have to wait till 2018, or a few months? The media really needs to make up its mind…like me!

I am all set to vote for the boy in red, black and green – and here are five excellent reasons why.

1. Line up all our current Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) and then take a good look. No seriously, do it right now. I’ve got a handy dandy random selection for you to peruse below!

I shouldn’t have to argue my point too far – Bilawal Bhutto is at least five times hotter than our average law maker and ten times more approachable.

Sure, all the haters can argue this point, but it’s still a fact. Are good looks and some level of relatability frivolous reasons to vote for someone?

If they are, then damn, half my khaandan and friends voted for Imran Khan frivolously.

2. Bilawal is educated.

Like, seriously educated – he went to Karachi Grammar School/Froebel’s and Oxford University. Yeah I don’t care how hard he partied in this time, I’m pretty sure some of that education seeped into him (also, partying is normal, just look at Imran, he turned out…okay?).

Yeah I also don’t care about your “once a feudal, always a feudal” argument against him. I think it’s a pretty safe assumption that he’s heard this criticism, oh, a few thousand times in his life, and has assessed what he needs to do here.

I think Bilawal is educated, and thinks more like me than most of our illustrious MNAs. In fact, if he only thinks like me 10% of the time, he will still share more similar views with me than the average MNA.

3. He is super amusing, and more importantly, pretty real on Twitter. His haters will, well, obviously hate on his flamboyant, sometimes naïve (sometimes insightful), sometimes out there… and okay fine, sometimes this:

But I doubt the haters would deny that Bilawal’s updates are human, something most of our politicians lack.

4. Bilawal has two sisters, no brothers – that is, in my opinion, the ideal combination for a Pakistani male’s upbringing.

I am banking on the fact that he will be just a tad bit more sensitive to issues that women face thanks to his sisters (not to mention his mom), and both Bakhtawar and Aseefa will keep him in line, perhaps ground him when the filth that is politics starts to corrupt him. For those who don’t know, Bilawal’s sisters are pretty damn cool!

Yeah. I’m convinced.

Call me a burger bachi with a corrupt western mindset or whatever – this is something I can get behind.

5. Bilawal is a multi-millionaire (billionaire?).

He has it all.

He could very well opt to stay out of politics and the mess that is Pakistan, but hey, he is stepping up and putting himself out there to face threats and the kind of vile criticism and hate the poor ET comment mods will probably have to delete all day from this post.

Call it the Bhutto way. Call it enormous pressure on a boy unable to say no. Call it what you will, what I see is a guy who is knowingly ready to sacrifice himself for this mad country we call home.

So if I get the chance, I will vote for Bilawal, and maybe you should too.

Or you could do the Pakistani thing and start bashing the guy (and me too, why not) cause hey, that’s what we do best.

this has got to be satire … otherwise i seriously question the sanity of the writer to come up with these fine pointsRecommend

  • Hassam Tahir

Okay, so let;’s get one thing out in the open. This piece has nothing to do with politics or for what is better for the Pakistani people or for Pakistan itself. This has obviously been written by someone, who actually doesn’t care about anything but herself and is truly a personal opinion (which will obviously, look like a crazy one indeed). Anyways before you begin the bashing do consider the fact that she is not going to be convinced as all our points will based on logic’s and her doesn’t. So just ignore this piece. She’s looking for attention (probably suffering from some OCD) so don’t give her the satisfaction. Read it, laugh hard ( I did, I actually thought this was a sarcastic article, took me some time to realize she was serious) and move on. :)Recommend

Right; all your reasons prove he will do anything to combat terrorism, illiteracy, unemployment, poverty etc. But hey all that doesnt matter because you find him hot and his sisters look. Bravo. And don’t talk about him being the multi-millionaire; all leading politicians are filthy rich and still want more.

I pray that what you wrote was a satirical article, otherwise you miss should not be allowed to vote. Good God woman, we’re talking about a leader of a nation, not some idol who needs fan following. Your article does not present a single logical argument and believe me this is not bashing when the other party is presenting a sound refutation. good looks? money? an education funded by corrupt money? this article only shows how you’re completely aloof to the severity of the situation that pakistan is in. I for one do NOT want a Johnny Bravo wannabe to run my country. (ps: given your credentials, i think you should stick to fashion and news related to lollywood)Recommend

I actually wasted time reading your article. It is poorly researched. Your points although valid for convincing adolescent teenage girls who worship Justin Bieber and One Direction sadly fall short for a “fairly educated” person, although I admit I lack having had the privilege of studying at expensive private schools and foreign universities. What sort of on-ground political experience does Bilawal have? He has spent a majority of his life abroad. Can’t speak our national and regional languages properly. Doesn’t know the problems of the common man. Has to hide behind PMC bodyguards. Your argument is that we should vote for him because he is hawt and wears cool clothes and has billions (looted from the coffers of Pakistan Treasury by his late mother and father).

    ET really should screen blogs.Recommend

And people complain why our country doesnt “progress”. I think you sould concentrate upon the policies of the parties. Other than that words fail me when I try to describe what you have written.Recommend

  • Annie

Bilawal is not counting on these five reasons for voting. These reasons only apply on a small percentage of Pakistani people, who own computers, have twitter accounts and can relate to his hotness, wealth and lifestyle. What he is counting on to become a MNA are the thousands of poor people of Pakistan, who have been worshipping PPP not because of him, but because of his grandfather, the first Bhutto. All his successors, including Bilawal, are only cashing on it (Hence, the name changing). So, in the end all I see is a hypocrite in Bilawal. Despite all his education and democracy lessons from abroad, he will be asking for votes from people who can’t remotely relate to him. Maybe since you can relate to him so well and he seems approachable to you, you should give him a call and suggest to him to run for MNA elections in a solely elite urban upper class constituency, but then I don’t think it exists in Pakistan.Recommend

One more reason why pakistan is in this dismal state and will stay that way for decades to come. You want our country to be run by yet another person who has never even lived in Pakistan , is son of a man whose net is above a billion dollars.Recommend

  • NA

So you think a guy who studied British History at Oxford is qualified to run this country. He will fail miserably like his father, mother, and grandfather.Recommend

  • Aamna Hassan Fasihi

Umm Nadya, just a girl to girl thingy isn’t Baby Bhutto a tad girly? I mean PTI’s young candidates like Murad Saeed and Sheheryar Afridi are quite good-looking MEN too. Infact even Imran Khan at this age seems more handsome than Bilawal.

Accessible? Haha, only to ‘burgers’ who have smartphones and a Twitter app in it. For ‘awam’ Bilawal Zardari is not even near Benazir who despite security threats, personally went to victims’ houses after Karsaz blast. Bilawal hides behind a wall, dude.

By the way, if your article is somewhat I think it is supposed to be, then I salute your sarcasm and humor. :)Recommend

Oh so we have an entirely new breed of idiots trying to sell us on “Bhutto-ism”(whatever that is). It would serve you and rest of the country well if you kept this nonsense limited to Justin Bieber and One direction.

I am hoping that this article was just poorly written satire and nothing more. Only slaves love their dynastic kings and chains.Recommend

  • Bilawal

I also want to get behind you in this causeRecommend

  • Anshuman Tripathy

This seemed like an endorsement for a Groom on a matrimonial site rather than an intelligent article about why you would vote for him. If you are Trolling then you need a lesson or two in sarcasm. If you are serious then you shouldn’t expect anyone to take this seriously.
    Dynasty Politics is the biggest cancer in the Subcontinent right now. India has woken up to this fact and the public has actively voted against congress this time around.     A well written Piece. First of all, everyone has freedom of speech and right to argue, The points raised by the writer may not seems to be very well articulated but the writer sure made an excellent effort. I shall try to explicate in a rather different way and will humbly suggest that the write should try to approach rather more seriously (in term of words) to explicate it’s point of view. Now I shall title it;

Next Generation of Pakistan Political Leaders VS BZ Bhutto.

Politically: He has a bright and clear future, in contrast, with Monis Elahi, with his NICL Scam, Gilani’s With their Drug Scam and similar to them who have been tested. Bilawal should be given a chance because he is clean so far.

Economic: He is Loaded with cash, and there is no denial, now Jinnah was loaded, Iqbal was loaded and in today’s world, money and power is required to stay in the global market. A poor politician and its politics simply won’t work.

Social: Since he is very well educated, far more than our other future politicians, there is a chance (as the writer said) that he will bring a positive change in the politics of Pakistan. Since he is rich it will take something to corrupt him. But the thing that interest me the most is, that he is a modern man. Now when the writer said about him being handsome, She meant (I hope she did) that he is a modern man, who understands the needs of the modern time.Recommend
