Is Bilawal Bhutto Zardari running for the National Assembly? Is he not running for the National Assembly? Do we have to wait till 2018, or a few months? The media really needs to make up its mind…like me! I am all set to vote for the boy in red, black and green – and here are five excellent reasons why. 1. Line up all our current Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) and then take a good look. No seriously, do it right now. I’ve got a handy dandy random selection for you to peruse below! Are you okay with sacrificing tortured animals on Eid?

Hello people. It’s been ages since I have written, but recently ET released a mini-story on Raja the sheep that made my blood run cold. Trigger warning for anyone who loves animals, but this is the sad reality of Bakra Eid, which I have covered before in: Please don’t kill my goat and Please don’t kill my goat or camel (II). Raja the sheep is owned by Jaffar Khan, a ‘sheep enthusiast’ who needs to be put in jail for the horrifying torture he has subjected his pet to. Let’s leave aside the fact that he plans to slaughter a creature he loves; this grinning ...

Fashion Pakistan Week 2013: Nothing screams sexy like the Pakistan men’s fashion scene!

Hey girls, but more importantly — guys! The last time I wrote on fashion, I covered the all-important impact local fashion is having on terrorism (n’ stuff). This time, thanks to the recently held first-ever Men’s Fashion Week in Pakistan and Fashion Pakistan Week 2013, I present to you an exploration of men’s fashion! I think the clothes really speak for themselves, but with a handy dandy speech bubble, I hope to call to your attention the nuances that go into design through the imaginings of the models that get to wear these splendid creations. Without further ado… THE HOTTEST MOMENTS IN PAKISTAN MEN’S FASHION ...

Are you a Pakistani extremist?

Hi everyone, it’s been ages! I was recently looking through my old blog posts and reminiscing about all the fun that was had with my quizzes for Pakistanis: What kind of Pakistani life do you lead? And: The desi-elite political identity quiz Given how 2013 has kicked off with more terrorism and extremism-related incidents than any year I can remember in my short lifespan, I think now would be the right time to find out how infected we each are with the ‘extremism’ virus on a personal level. Take the quiz below! Q1: The Christian neighbourhood next to you has been burnt down to the ground ...

Please don’t kill my goat, or camel (II)

Disclaimer: Graphic images below It’s that time of the year again, and what can I say that I haven’t already lain down in my first blog post: Please don’t kill my goat But if there is anything that I am, it is persistent. So without further ado, here is a list of even more gripes I have with bakra Eid and the way it is conducted. 1. Many animals that are slaughtered on Eid tend to be murdered by amateur butchers that crop up all over Pakistan hoping to make a quick buck by running a knife any which way through the millions ...

I’m not bipolar, I’m not manic, I’m not depressed – I’m not!

A big hello to my fans and haters – it’s been a while! Unlike my usual cutting-edge rants and raves, I’ve dedicated this post to an issue I am familiar with: hypomania, with a healthy dose of generalised anxiety that has come to dominate my life – and yes, maybe that explains why my blogs are just so amazing. I’ve been to over 10 psychiatrists and counsellors over the years and having been diagnosed with everything from clinical depression to schizoaffective disorder to Bipolar II and more (boo doctors). I’ve really just come to live with who I am without the ...

Fashion will save Pakistan from terrorism n’ stuff

Fashion is not just what you wear. Sometimes, it’s a statement; sometimes, it’s a call to action. But in Pakistan, fashion is resilience – an ‘in your face’ to the forces that aim to destroy the country. Pakistani fashion is fast evolving into the counter-narrative that will put this nation on the fast-track to progress. Don’t believe me? Below is a selection of just a few of the ground breaking, era-defining, nation-building and instantly wearable designs that are fast eroding the cultural malaise we are experiencing. Behold! Design sense: Po-mo (post modern vs postmodernism)  trash bag chique Inspiration: Neon signs, California beaches, trash bags. The ideal dress for the upcoming ...

What kind of Pakistani life do you lead?

Hello everyone, long time no see! I’ve been mulling over all that has been happening in Pakistan over the last year and it got me to thinking, its about time I tried my hand at writing a quiz a little more all-encompassing than the Desi elite political identity quiz (though do take that if you haven’t already). The big question: what kind of Pakistani life do you lead, should hopefully provide you with some perspective on whether things are looking up (or down) for you, not to mention give you bragging rights with your peers. Keep score, keep calm and leave your results ...

I’m not ready to live in Imran’s Pakistan

Its 2013 and by some unlikely miracle of sheer inqilabi (revolutionary) voting, Imran Khan has been elected prime minister and his party is in power. Wait a minute – what party? That’s right, a hefty gang full of  loafers and bitter ex-politicians out for rival blood. Looking at those lining up to be given party tickets so far, the PTI may as well take Sheikh Rasheed, Pir Pagara and Musharraf on board (something I’ve suggested before). Let’s face it – for Imran to win the elections, he will (and is) turn to the same old faces, using the same old tools to come ...

Should Justin Bieber replace Osama bin Laden?

Okay, so now that big bad Osama bin bad hair day is dead the question that all of us are asking is “who will be taking over as the head of al Qaeda?” The position definitely requires charismatic leadership and the ability to strategize but if the group is to stay relevant they may want to think about a new kind of leader. Here are my suggestions: Justin Bieber: Who better to lead a bunch of frustrated, young kids with way too much spare time on their hands in an ultimate battle of good against evil? Bieber is (insanely) passionate, has a (zombie-cult) ...
