Patriots Day: Made by Hollywo… US Security Agencies

Are we aware of the fact that loads of people consider the whole Boston Marathon Bombings an elaborate hoax perpetrated by the US Government and stage-crafted by none other than our beloved Hollywood? It shouldn’t come as a major surprise given that Tinsel town has been in cahoots with Uncle Sam ever since World War One. Yes, that far back! Anyone who believes that all these war-mongering movies are purely coincidental is at best, completely naïve and at worst, complicit in all the resulting atrocities. What is the point of discussing all of this, you might ask. Well for starters how about ...

Is Logan the perfect send-off for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine?

Ever been in a discussion where the topic of conversation turned towards cinematic superman, and somebody had to ask which particular one we’re talking about? It is a long list indeed, with several actors portraying The Man of Steel in motion pictures and TV series including Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, Tom Welling, Henry Cavill, and Tyler Hoechlin. The same goes for The Dark Knight. Adam West, Michael Keaton, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck are just some of the performers that have played Batman. But there is no confusion when it comes to the mutant made of Adamantium. There is ...

The loving humanitarian efforts of an American in Pakistan

Due to frequent media images of violent anti-American protests as well as repeated travel-safety warnings from the State Department, most Americans avoid visiting Pakistan. However, Todd Shea, the founder of Comprehensive Disaster Response Services (CDRS), has adopted Pakistan as his home and is running several welfare projects there. I learnt about Todd Shea on Facebook several months ago when I was browsing through a list of ‘People you may know’. Pleasantly surprised to learn about the humanitarian work he was doing in Pakistan, I began to closely follow CDRS activities on social media. The 2005 earthquake and the great need to help its victims brought Shea to ...

9 alternative career options for Bilawal Bhutto

Bilawal Bhutto carries the weight of the entire world on his shoulders; he is the scion of the Bhutto dynasty, his vocabulary is limited when it comes to the people he wants to lead and, if reports are to be believed, he has some daddy issues. We sympathise with the young and determined leader, and decided to suggest some alternate career options just in case he isn’t cut out for a political career. 1. Social media consultant – especially given that he is quite active on Twitter and has caused many a controversy on the medium with his acerbic tweets. Design: ...

Comic history: There’s a hero in all of us

Since the advent of literary print there is one word that comes to mind whenever you hear of comics: superheroes. Superhero comics burst onto the scene with the introduction of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman in the late 1930s. Superman represented the hero we all wanted to be: someone who had the power to move planets, and yet, chose to do good for the world and its people. Batman portrayed the humanistic flaws; how our tragedies and mistakes could be used as motivation to become a hero. And Wonder Woman, who was a symbol for feminism and political hierarchy. These formed the trifecta of DC comics, along with Marvel, and they ...

9 reasons you should watch The Big Bang Theory!

Although it has become somewhat of a fashion to criticise mainstream things and the same is also true for The Big Bang Theory, we must not forget that it is called ‘mainstream’ for some reason. You’ve got to agree… they were given an unlikable subject and they turned it into something hilariously appreciable. If you still haven’t seen the show (and you better have a good excuse for that), here are nine of the most compelling reasons I thought of for you to watch The Big Bang Theory. 1. Doctor Sheldon Cooper, Bazinga! Doctor Sheldon Cooper, a theoretical physicist and the King of Nerds, ...

Baby Bhutto, his superman ajrak and the ‘cultural coup’… yeah right!

It was quite entertaining to watch Bilawal Bhutto speak of Sindhi culture, dressed up in a presidential style sherwani and speak in roman Urdu. The most amusing part of the ‘address’ was him putting all the blame on successive governments for the destruction of Sindhi heritage. What Bilawal did not notice, or his speech writer probably overlooked, was the fact that Sindh has predominantly been ruled by his own political party, PPP, which for the record, hasn’t been able to carry out any development work in any of its strong holds in interior Sindh and has, instead, destroyed whatever little heritage was left. The ...
