I’m not ready to live in Imran’s Pakistan

November 15, 2011

Pick one: Khan's tenure may end in nuclear war, mullah takeover, country-wide revolt, accidental war with India.

Its 2013 and by some unlikely miracle of sheer inqilabi (revolutionary) voting, Imran Khan has been elected prime minister and his party is in power.

Wait a minute – what party?

That’s right, a hefty gang full of  loafers and bitter ex-politicians out for rival blood. Looking at those lining up to be given party tickets so far, the PTI may as well take Sheikh Rasheed, Pir Pagara and Musharraf on board (something I’ve suggested before).

Let’s face it – for Imran to win the elections, he will (and is) turn to the same old faces, using the same old tools to come out on top.

Fear not though, there is an inqilab (revolution) coming – just not the one you envisioned.

2013

It’s three months after Imran has been elected prime minister and two weeks since all ties were severed with the US. This is partly due to drone attacks which Imran was unable to stop post-coming into power, and partly from Pakistan’s new foreign minister Shireen Mazari shouting expletives at random goras (white people) in Islamabad.

The US has had enough. The drones keep falling. The Pakistan army says its hands are tied, short of all out war. The foreign office has imposed a ban on all ‘yanks’ travelling to Pakistan. The PTI gang is telling Imran he is bang on target with his agenda. People in Pakistan are loving it!

Except, there is no more US aid to fund anything – and by anything, I mean anything. The military, food, education – there is no money.

It is now the start of 2014

Imran is delivering his Obama speeches laced with a little less “Yes we Khan” and a little more:

“I’m not gonna lie to you…times are tough, results will take a while to show, but we all have to work together to pull through.”

This is also when his PTI gang starts splitting at the seams as corruption reaches new highs (or lows depending on how you see it). Imran is firing lotas and loafers left right and centre, but unfortunately, is forced to hire their loathsome underlings to fill in the gaps. In desperation, Zohair Toru is declared Minister for Information due to his street cred (hey at least he’s not corrupt).

The PPP, PML-N and ANP are laughing hysterically at the sidelines and using all their clout to ensure things go from bad to worse. This is starting to look bad. It’s starting to smell bad too as money for street sweepers and gutter cleaners is the first to run out.

Funds are short but Imran has a plan. He has appealed to the Swiss Banks demanding the return of Pakistan’s looted wealth. The Swiss say they will get on it…soon.

BOOM!

That was the sound of parliament being attacked by a suicide bomber. He got through due to lack of security due to lack of funds. More importantly, he got through because over the last year Imran has been busy engaging the Tehreek-e-Taliban in talks letting them regroup and expand (not to mention there is no army to carry out operations any more; it’s too busy on the Afghan border watching the US with fear in its eyes, and lets not forget – the lack of US funds).

The Taliban have now decided they can take a crack at the parliament too. So have 35 other militant outfits who have (miraculously) found a new supply of desperate young men out of jobs, out of homes, starving, and ideologically motivated after having watched the new regiment of religion-based dramas trotted out after pretty much everything else was banned on TV because “hum sub ke ghar, or TV mein pardey honay chahiye” (we should all have curtains in our homes and TVs).

Imran is cursing the day he decided to make a bunch of Twitter experts his economic team. The Swiss haven’t replied. The US well has dried up and sanctions are fast approaching (along with a US-led coalition on the Pak-Afghan border). How can things possibly get worse?

Easy. The military realizes things have gone to pot with Sunshine boy. They realize coups are just so 1999, but they really need that US cash and they really don’t want a war on their hands.

End of 2014

The coup is under way. The militants are among us. Our TV channels suck worse than before. There is no food, no money, no fuel, and for us rich folk, no easy escape to the US either (no visas, not to mention all PIA flights were grounded four months ago). The mullahs are trying to talk to Imran to convince him to hand over power to them, as a mullah-military nexus may be acceptable to the militants, preventing a complete hostile takeover.

Imran of course, refuses to compromise and his newly appointed Minister of Water and Power, General (rtd) Pervez Musharraf keeps telling him to “take it like a man.”

2015: choose your own (real and inevitable) inqilab

US take-over of Pakistan

Mullah-military nexus take-over

Militant-run Pakistan

Countrywide revolt due to abject poverty, starvation

A PPP return to power

(Accidental) nuclear war with India

    Dear writer!!

I dont know what was the logic behind this post, stop being so obsessed sad & pessimistic mind set. Nations have always stood up & proved their worth,mo matter its all wrong in Pakistan, still people are willing & expecting something good, where there is a hope there is always a better future.

Imran is at least trying to prove a point, now addressing the issue of old faces, its the leadership that matters,if he is not inclined towards corruption & have some vision,i dont see any problem in tricking it down to bottom.

So,its time to spread positive attitude not dreams of negativity!!!!Recommend

Yayyy … so I am not the only one who doesn’t understand the insane Imran-mania. We always had a choice besides PML-N and PPP: the Jamaat-e-Islami. Let’s suppose Immy bhai does sweep the elections, so what? Individuals don’t make governments. It includes a lot of other people. And so far his party’s leadership fails to impress. If honesty is the only thing required to be a good politician, then I should also become one. It’s like saying I am a doctor/lawyer/painter/writer because I am honest.Recommend

Nadya..There is nothing which I can do except laughing, after reading this blog..You seem to live in a world of your own. You have put your fears in an orientation of your liking and blasted PTI and Imran Khan.
First IK has given a critieria for the inclusion of any person in his party. I guess you haven’t gone through it.
There are 1000 positions which he intends to contest for PTI and if the people like Masood Sharif Khattak become a party of the party who have left their own party on the basis of principle, there is no harm in accepting that.
Thridly PTI has made a forum which will give ticket to the perosns depending upon their credibility.
Who told you that Shireen Mazari is giong to become the Foreign Minister. These are all your personal fears which you are attaching with Imran.
As far as the laughing of PPP,PMLN, ANP is concerned yes it can happen. Because over the years people have laughed on him.Yet he has performed the best in his past. It’s no easy task to build an institution like Shaukat Khanum when all the top doctors say no except one.
Definitely money of the public must be brought back from Swiss banks. Now God knows whether you agree with it or not.
Regarding American funding, I guess you don’t have any idea, whatsover regarding the funding which Pakistan is getting from US and how much we can generate ourself if the corruption is minimized.Recommend

After reading this article, what was your feeling… “I’m doomed… better get out of this country…” This is an example of negative energy.

After attending Lahore Jalsa (if you have) or if you have seen it on TV/online, what was your feeling… “Yes… It’s time to fight for my country… We are young people… We have been reading Iqbal since my high school days… now it’s time for some action… I’m hopeful.” This is an example of positive energy…

My request to the author, please use your skills of creativity that I’ve just acknowledged, create a scenario… What will happen if Nawaz Sharif becomes a prime minister… or if you have just returned to Pakistan… please give a try to the scenario… What will happen if Zardari/Balawal becomes a prime minister… :)Recommend

You have potential to be a good satirist, but your bias against Imran Khan has spoiled this article. If you make fun of something that is true, it is much much more funnier than deliberate strawman attempts to be funny.

You could for instance have mocked how IK is so used to being in opposition that even when in power he lectures the opposition how to do ‘haqiqi opposition’( hum sab ummeed sey hain did that) or something about him using cricket terms in speeches, or something of the sort that is true and people can relate too. But you chose to mock him based on your personal dislike of him. Which is why this article was spoiled.

What written in article is not worrying but what is alarming that you let these kind of thought get published. Even if all political figures/parties are corrupt who else other than Imran is shouting for people’s rights or even through words worried about what’s happening in Pakistan. I for one am happy to see a wave of optimism sweep the country… And no one can deny the passions that were ignited at that Lahore rally, the kind of excitement that only do or die cricket matches have brought amongst our 173 million strong population… In my lifetime atleast… That ofcourse peaking in 1992 when he brought us the world cup. He might not be that politically savvy, but personally I’m sick of politicians and game playing… I want a leader, someone who has a vision and the drive to bring that vision to fruition. For that alone, I will vote for Imran… Because the scariest thing about zardaris Pakistan is that we have Bilawal waiting in the sidelines.Recommend

There is funny and then there is silly. This article is the latter. And it is so because she has allowed her personal bias and dislike of Imran Khan cloud her writing.

If one writes satire you should write about something that ALL people can relate too. Like the 4man show and Hum Sab Umeed sey hai does. Not something she herself thinks is true.

    This is nothing but drivel.Recommend

    You want answers?
    Here they are
1: Does the writer have a crystal ball in which she can fore-see the future?
2: Imran has studied politics and knows what to do and what not to, he’s getting elected to stop the killing not to aggravate them. he never said he clapped whenever there is a drone attack. He has always emphasized on a a diplomatic solution to the problem of militancy.
3: India? War? is she serious? With Imran having a real good political move up his sleeve i.e; keep the kashmir issue on pending, is she really serious? Imran wants us to become a global economic super-power before raising questions about kashmir. he wants some credibility for the voice of a paksitani.
Besides, he has said he’ll not let any terrorist group operate within pakistan or use pakistani soil to launch attacks so how can there be a war with india? and a nuclear one? you gotta be kidding me-
4: A mulla take-over? LOL! If he was a mullah he would not have created PTI, he would have joined JI instead.
SHE NEEDS TO GET HER FACTS RIGHT, SOMEBODY TELL HER!

That wasn’t hysterical at all. The writer highlights the importance of US aid again and again ,”Except, there is no more US aid to fund anything – and by anything, I mean anything. The military, food, education – there is no money.”

Nadya did try to make it sarcastically good and I do agree to some it where she says that US will be against us and AID won’t be here. So to make it clearer AID was NEVER here actually. Whatever meager AID US has been able to grant us has been eaten by the politicians alone. We pay humongous taxes(Via PTCL, WAPDA esp.) to feed the army who end up calling us “BLOODY CIVILIANS” and to make it worse we have abundant natural resources couldn’t be used for ourselves. Let me give you another insight.

It’s 2013 and Imran goes to China, China and Pakistan agrees to start the Gawadar Port officially and open up the Silk route.China Invests enormous money making warehouses all the way till Gawadar, more jobs more money. Pakistan uses that Money to evacuate coal from Thar and sell export Coal. More Money..Pakistan Starts controlling the prices of the veggies, rice, wheat grown subsidizing them. People get to eat something at least. Pakistan opens up trade with China and Russia gets involved ultimately as Russia sees that Pakistan is directly taking on US now. More foreign investment. Pakistan states clearly that We won’t leave our irani brothers for US. Iran agrees to give us Oil at cheaper cost, we save cost more Money.Pakistan agrees to coalate with Russia on terms that it will help Pakistan make a Damn in North (Where a Report said that Pakistan can make electricity for next 100 years, feasibility and everything is done only needs implementation). Imran sits and starts talking terms with Taliban they are given their rights (Get some sense Taliban used to be live peacefully prior suicidal, you can’t blame them for the last 5 years they have a history of older than us). US go wilds at Russia and China making so much investment in Pakistan and they start ranting and bashing but ALAS China and Russia Veto’s. Thus we are in a lot better condition without the SO CALLED HELP of US.Recommend

you don’t wanna live in Imran Khan’s Pakistan which may or may not be the way you tried to portray right here but you seem so much more than comfortable living in the right here right now Pakistan of Zardari………….get a life, my friend, really!!!

you talk about no money, no food, no military (your prediction about our future) and blah blah. well if you could just be bothered enough to leave your comfortable, airconditioned abode and see that more than half of Pakistan is, right now living with no food, no electricity, no gas, no education, no health facilities, no clean water and so on………and your point was……?????????????

And well maybe we, the majority of Pakistanis, don’t have a choice but to live here and suffer at the hands of our politicians or hopefully get a new start with Imran Khan. But for you my friend, I would suggest “Pakistan se zinda bhag” because you and others like you who make up a very small percentage of our population, can easily, oh-so-easily run off for a long vacation or immigration abroad so the situation, the tension, the corruption, the revolution happening in Pakistan should not be bothering you all that much now should it.

    And again, get a life!!!!!Recommend

It’s called an “opinion”, not bias. Some people think IK is super-mega-omg-wtf-ftw-awesome and some people just plain don’t like him. That’s the whole point of blogging…expressing one’s personal views about an affair.
