Fast five: Sheer adrenalin

Fast Five is a combination of everything - wit, action, drama and love.

If this movie has to be described in two words, “sheer adrenalin” would be appropriate. Two hours and 10 minutes of a thrilling ride is what viewers should expect before hitting the theatres. Fast Five is all about heart-stopping action sequences, nerve wrecking suspense, signature car race scenes along with a bit of an emotional appeal.

Writer Chris Morgan and director Justin Lin, the brains behind the mind blowing production, start exactly where Fast & Furious ended. Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) is busted out while he is being transferred to prison, after which crew decides to go their separate ways - temporarily. Dominic’s sister Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) and the love of her life Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker) drive off to Brazil in a Nissan Skyline classic and meet up with the hot-headed Vince (Matt Schulze) who has already established himself in the underworld in Rio de Janeiro.

Vince finds a job for Brian, Mia and Dominic, but due to a last moment change in plans our grand theft auto group finds itself in the bad books of Brazilian businessman Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida).

Reyes, who captures Dominic and Brian threatens to kill Mia, and this is where the movie goes a bit ‘Bollywood’ and viewers witness the greatest and most thrilling heist ever to hit the big screen.

Soon we all find out it’s not just two teams going at each other; a third team (the FBI) is introduced to the action flick, lead by Hobbs (The Rock) who, along with his men, vows to hunt down Toretto and O’Conner.

The stunt choreography in the movie is unmatchable. It seems that action movies have made a comeback with Fast Five, thanks to Lin; he has simply outdone himself and set a new standard.

At the Atrium Cinema (where I watched the movie), the excellent sound system beautifully complemented the choreography of the movie.

The movie picks up when we see characters from all the prequels return. We end up with a crew, lead by Dominic, along with Mia, Brian, Vince, Roman, Han, Tego, Don Santos, Tej and Gisele. Seeing them all in one warehouse, brainstorming for the greatest heist ever, would definitely stir some emotion within the viewers.

The Fast and the Furious franchise is known for its cars. So, a car enthusiasts might find the list below to be of interest.

Cars used in movie:

63’ Ford Galaxy

66’ Ford GT40

66’ Corvette Grand Sport

70’ Charger

72’ Nissan Skyline

96’ Toyota Supra

2002 Porsche GT3

2009 Nissan 370Z

2010 Dodge Challenger

Fast Five is by far the finest part of the entire series. It has a combination of everything - wit, action, drama, love - pretty much everything that seems to be lacking in cinema of today.

It is like XXX, Ocean’s eleven, Transporter, Takers, and Mission Impossible all jammed into 130 minutes!

Reviews by the critics

With an 88 per cent audience rating, this is what the famous film review website Rotten Tomatoes has to say about Fast Five:
“Sleek, loud, and over the top, Fast Five proudly embraces its brainless action thrills.”

Susan Granger of SSG Syndicate says:
“A screeching, testosterone-propelled fifth installment for this durable, high-octane franchise.”

Andrea Chase-Killer movie reviews states:
“Cars zoom, guns blaze, and the quips fly with wild abandon, but the biggest achievement to be found here is the pairing of Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson.”

Colin Covert of Minneapolis Star Tribune says:
“Here's a popcorn flick strong enough for a man and gentle enough for a woman.”

Fahad Shaikh | 12 years ago | Reply Amazing movie - but somehow the story revolves more around the heist than the cars itself - if we wanted to watch that we'd watch oceans 11/12 - the thing which always made fast and the furious AMAZING was the focus around the racing bit - i dont think any movie did that better than the very first part. Just my own personal thoughts!
