The wicked women of Bigg Boss IV

December 5, 2010

It started for me three weeks ago – while channel hopping looking for something entertaining to watch on television at home, I came across an Indian channel showing an intensely heated argument between some celebrities hailing from popular Star Plus soaps. Hoping for something interesting, I got comfortable on my couch and was drawn into the fourth season of Big Boss.

Whilst undoubtedly slapstick lowbrow entertainment, this show still tends to keep people glued to the screen as it unravels the domestic affairs, romantic flings, feuds and rivalries of the various housemates. It is a real-life soap opera, currently filled with a cast who have much experience of these.

Hollywood celeb and former Baywatch babe, Pamela Anderson, is also playing a guest role on the reality show, she has had to deal with all the other ‘inmates’! Her sultry Shakira-type ‘dhak dhak kare jiya’ dance only adds to the frustration of the ogling men- who have been constantly staring at her – in the house.

Sara Khan aka Sadhna from the Indian soap ‘Sapna Baabul Ka Bidaai’, Shweta Tiwari aka Prerna from ‘Kasauti Zindagi Ki’ and our very own Pakistani Veena Malik are the damsels in distress these days.

Due credit must be given to the ‘item’ giving distress signals – or should I say screaming signals! Enter the big bad wolf – a hefty and huffed up Dolly Bindra, who was keen to huff and puff these three little smug piggies all the way back home.

On several occasions in the reality show, Dolly Bindra – or ‘Dolly Bomb’ as she has been dubbed by her housemates – had behaved in a manner best described as un-ladylike, threatening her housemates by yelling out crude and vicious remarks. She accused Sara Khan of feeding her stale roti and serving substandard food even though Dolly herself was not serving eggs to her co-star Manoj for breakfast! Her presence and behavior became very much the focus. Even Big Boss host Salman Khan cracked a joke that he’d received a text from a man saying he was scared to enter his kitchen in case Dolly was there patrolling over the food!

It is human nature that if a person is rude to another, then that other would obviously become cautious around them. In this same way most of the housemates felt threatened with Dolly’s behaviour. She has also been referred to as the desi Jade Goody due to her sharp tongue! Dolly’s aggression only portrayed her inferiority complex to the co-stars as she has often become the third wheel.

However, perhaps we can learn something here too. Dolly was removed from the house, after she clashed with Samir Soni and they both indulged in some rule-breaking. She denied she had done anything wrong until presented with a series of clips, leaving her apparently stunned at her own words and actions – yet a few days later she was allowed to return to the house. This time, willing to offer apologies and a degree of humility. She has even been made captain of the house in a popular vote by the other housemates.

People who act as Dolly did initially are a spectacle.  They promote a rude and indecent society, destroy channels of communication with their behaviour and cause misunderstandings. While this sort of behaviour undoubtedly makes good – if cheap and undemanding – television it does not make good people. Hopefully, the newly repentant Dolly can demonstrate how showing others a degree of respect and courtesy can go a lot further.

Its all about adding spices in the show. yeah Pamela’s dressing and her dance was vulgar. It was like as if she tied a towel and dancing in it but again this is all about to gain attention of audience Sara and Ali wedding, Veena and Ashmit affair in fact Dolly bomb all the stunts of publicity.Recommend

That’s funny Sarah, the tribune paper has been providing a lot of info on Big Boss, more than some Indian paparazzi papers, its astonishing that you got to know it today. I get a feeling that due to this extensive coverage more pakistanis by percentage see big boss than indians.Recommend

women in our part of the world have fixed roles in society of mothers, daughters, sisters & wives, all others are just ‘loose’ women to ogle at & gossip about.women like veena continue the stereotype of the item girl as men only think of non related women as items to stare at.
i study in a supposedly liberal, upperclass Alevels institution, but the mentality of the guys is the same as of the men of the medieval times.
any girl wearing a hijab is ‘sharif’ no matter how rotten a person that girl might be,those wearing jeans or capris:loose & asking to be taken advantage of, girlfriends are only for tafrih yar,not for marrying; girls for marrying are only those who never talk to any guy,are shy & therefore “pakeezah”..what’s this sickening concept of pakeezah for girls in our society?
what’s up will all these hypocritical & superficial standards of judging girls in our society?
the accents, haircuts & clothing of our guys might be western but the mentality is still of Mullah Umar & the taliban.Recommend

Watched it and stopped it after 3 weeks thinking what a waste of time watching below standard program which is promoting nothing but abusive language, fighting and deceiving others. If you watch this program for only 2 days you will get to know the background of participants and the mentality of the producers. Disgusting, I feel guilty for watching this show for 3 weeks. Eww

PS:Even if somebody finds interest watching this show, I tell you to see the statement of Rahul Bhatt, one of the evicted participant who claimed that many of the participants acted with already written script.Recommend

I agree with the sickening close mindedness of the male population, specially in Pakistan a male dominated society. They complain of Pamela Anderson in skimpy clothes, you guys she has had a sex tapes for ages so looks like her career was damaged after that? her wearing skimpy clothes is an improvement!
I agree with @farid khan we have an unprecedented amount of hypocritical & superficial standards of judging females in our society? Men seem to be afraid of strong women hence the childish comments on this blog.
Like @Asad where guilt is a wasted emotion he actually is foolish enough to believe that the statement of Rahul Bhatt, one of the evicted participant who claimed that many of the participants acted with already written script.
Who cares? this is a reality show look up the meaning this is not a show for the feeble minded and as @farid khan says we have no shortage of those guys with the accents, haircuts & clothing of our guys might be western but the mentality is still of Mullah Umar & the taliban.Recommend

@Zohra Nishan…. Feeling sorry for ya, if learning new (maa/behen) Galees is in trend, if learning how to deceive and back stab people will help you become broadminded, and learning new seduction techniques is an act towards further liberalization then ma’am please continue to see this filthy and disgusting program which has caused uproar amongst the secular indians as well (see court petitions filed by the people against this show) for its level of sub-standard content…Dont miss the upcoming episodes its about to finish in coming days..And if you have been watching all the episodes, you wouldn’t need to listen and believe to any of the statements of the participants, you can judge by yourself whether the show is scripted or genuine.Recommend

@ Asad : Why do we have to take moral, relegious and ethical lessons from everything in the world. Get out of this man…What to talk of morals in a society where a girl even covered from head to toe is stared as if she was walking naked….Big Boss is just an entertainment program so just limit it to that…Dont bring ambigous morals in to this and ruin it up.

@ Zohra : Try not to be judgemental and take a chill pill.

The programme is good masala and i enjoyed watching a bit of it and that too with my wife :)Recommend
