Bidding farewell to the stalwart heroes of Pakistan Test cricket

The upcoming Test series in West Indies will be the last time we get to see Misbahul Haq and Younus Khan sporting the colours of Pakistan, as both these players will bid farewell to Test cricket after the series ends. The series will provide both players an ideal opportunity to conclude their respective careers on a high note. Misbah has great prospects of becoming the first Pakistani captain to win a Test series in West Indies, whereas Younus is at a hand-shaking distance from becoming the first Pakistani player to reach the 10,000-runs mark in Test cricket. I hope to see both players achieve their respective milestones ...

In order to ensure direct qualification for the 2019 World Cup, it is imperative for them to win the upcoming ODI series. PSL 2016 vs PSL 2017: It’s about time PCB brings something new to the stadium

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been a great addition to Pakistan’s domestic calendar. For almost a decade, foreign teams refused to tour Pakistan and PSL managed to end that drought for us. Furthermore, young local cricketers were able to play alongside international players. Spending time with maestros like Vivian Richards, Dean Jones, Wasim Akram, Kevin Pietersen, Darren Sammy is important for young players, as it can help boost their confidence. Moreover, domestic matches typically do not see stadiums filled with people to the brim but PSL changed that and brought with it huge crowds, teaching cricketers how to play under immense pressure. Darren Sammy ...

Will Careem and Uber be able to survive in Pakistan?

The government of Pakistan, both federal and provincial, remains in a deep slumber. It does not counter any illegal business activity but only takes action when the project strengthens its roots in society and provides an alternative to public woes in a certain segment.  It is the government’s responsibility to provide adequate, reliable and secure modes of transport to the public to commute from one place to another. Unfortunately, the government has completely failed to do any such thing and hence, most of the country’s transport is in total control of the private sector. The tram service, which was operating in ...

Has the Australian team forgotten how many times they have been whitewashed by their South Asian counterparts?

Recently, Ian Chappell passed a comment, telling the Pakistan cricket team to either improve their game or stay at home. The former Australian captain went on to say that until the struggling side does not up their game significantly and provide some sort of a challenge to the home side, the Pakistan team will not be invited for any future series. According to Chappell,  “Pakistan have now lost 12 Test matches on the trot in Australia, and somebody’s got to give them a kick up the bum. Cricket Australia have got to start saying ‘listen if things don’t improve we will ...

Was it truly necessary to suspend Misbahul Haq right now?

Pakistan lost its first Test series in Christchurch after seven consecutive Test series. Tours to New Zealand and Australia have always been tough for Pakistan. After Pakistan’s unsatisfactory performance in Sharjah against the West Indies, there have been doubts regarding our batting line up against New Zealand and Australian conditions; thus resurfacing and strengthening the fear that the Pakistani team will struggle in such trying conditions. Misbahul Haq is a legend in the current team. He has played many match-saving and match-winning innings for Pakistan. His captaincy and batting ability is the reason why Pakistan is placed in the top half of the Test playing nations’ ranking charts. Misbah has ...

Why aren’t there any well-equipped ambulances available in Karachi?

A few years ago, my cousin passed away in Gwadar. His wife had to transport his body from Gwadar to Karachi in a Toyota Hiace because she could not get hold of an ambulance. That memory resurfaced when I heard that ambulance services were unavailable to carry the dead bodies of the martyred cadets in the attack on the Police Training Academy in Quetta. Even if one tries to justify the legitimacy of such issues by claiming that Gwadar and Quetta are ‘remote’ areas, why is there a shortage of ambulances in Karachi and in other developed cities of Pakistan? Apart from the ...

Mr Entrepreneur, just know, the future of Pakistan’s sports industry needs you

The entire nation meticulously follows cricket, and everyone wants to emulate our cricket stars. The media, particularly our electronic media, in Pakistan is completely biased towards cricket when promoting a sport. PTV was once a lone channel able to find time to air local sports. Having said that, the turn of the century came with a boom, and ...

Pakistan: The most deserving Test team

Pakistan finally bagged the number one spot in the International Cricket Council Test ranking table. This is a great achievement for a team that has faced various difficulties and issues, such as playing home games away from Pakistan and the 2010 spot fixing fiasco. ICC Test tablePhoto: ICC After the Lord’s spot fixing fiasco in 2010, Misbahul Haq was handed the reins of the Pakistan Test side. Initially, Misbah’s selection as a Test captain was perceived as a stopgap. But little did we know that after a seven year continuous stint, Misbah would raise his team from the ruins and lead them towards becoming the ...
